Accomplishments and Awards
In addition to beautifying our local neighborhoods and community spaces, Trees Atlanta also focuses on planting trees along the sidewalks of our central business district and in spaces created in adjoining parking lots. Since its inception in 1985, Trees Atlanta has planted and distributed more than 81,000 trees in the city of Atlanta; downtown alone is home to over 20,000 large shade trees.

When Trees Atlanta plants and maintains large shade trees downtown, specialized landscape contractors are hired to do the work. This work has to be done very carefully because there are numerous utility lines under the ground along with granite foundations of old buildings. Many downtown Trees Atlanta trees are primarily planted in landscape strips created at the edges of parking lots. These landscape areas are enhanced with evergreen shrubs to provide year-round green. Trees Atlanta maintains (water, spray, and prune) the street trees for a three-year period and continues to care for the trees if they have special needs. The parking lot owners agree to maintain trees planted on their property. Trees Atlanta is one of the few citizens' tree groups in the country with a three-year maintenance program.
Contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations make these plantings possible.Trees Atlantaoffers memberships to individuals, families, corporations, and civic groups at many levels. Some tree plantings have been funded by U.S. Forest Service grants.
